PATTON, GEORGE S.
(1885 - 1945) "Old Blood and Guts" was one of the finest tank commanders in history, rolling his forces through Tunisia, Sicily, France and Germany until halted at the Rhine. Good content T.L.S. "G. S. Patton, Jr.", 2pp. 4to., Schofield Barracks, July 27, 1927 to his friend Alfred W. Carter, General Manager of the enormous Parker Ranch in Hawaii from which Patton purchased some of his favorite horses. Apparently typing the letter himself, Patton writes in part: "… Major C. L. Scott of the remount service…was most delighted with the type of horse…Scott would like to buy from forty to fifty more horses for use at the Cavalry School, Fort Riley…you might feel that having the horses selected from certain sires for a special place where only the best are sent would be worth something…The transport Meigs will be here towards the end of August or the first of September and if the horses are sold new would want to ship them on her…". Small staple rust spot at top margin, else very good.
