Letter to Marilyn Monroe by Her Personal Friend/Publicist
[MARILYN MONROE] PAT NEWCOMB Hollywood agent, best known as Marilyn Monroe’s personal friend and publicist.
December 31, 1960-Dated, Autograph Letter Signed, “Pat,” 1 page, measuring 7.25” x 10.25”, Choice Extremely Fine. Penned on “In Flight - American Airlines” letterhead stationery and written to Marilyn Monroe, accompanied by the original transmittal envelope addressed to “Mrs. Arthur Miller, 444 East 57th St., New York, New York,” and marked “Personal” in lower left corner. Writing to support her friend as her marriage to playwright Arthur Miller was coming to an end. Newcomb pens (in full):

“Dear Marilyn-

“We’ve been up in the air for two hours and I’m still wearing my gorgeous mink! The stewardess asking if she can hang it up, but I won’t let go. I’ve turned on all the air vents - so it’s really cold enough to need a coat - much to the consternation of some rather chilly passengers seated nearby.

“Marilyn, I hope you will take good care of yourself. I know and understand what you are going through - but you will make it! Just take it ‘nice ‘n easy’. It will all work out - because you want it to and you have the capacity to make it work! Start with the nurse this week and please call me anytime during the night or day that you feel like talking. If I shouldn’t be home sometime, don’t say ‘That lousy Pat - not even there when I call.” Just leave word and I’ll call you right back. This week will be a rough one - but it’s worth it and very important for you.

“Thank you so very very much again for the wonderful ‘lifetime gift.’ I adore it!!! I can only give you one ‘lifetime gift’ - and that’s my friendship - which you know you already have! Love, (Signed) Pat” plus... See you on the 19th”.
