John Murray, 1853FIRST EDITION, with 18 plates, some text illustrations and a large folding map, pages xv, 425, (1) : iv, 432, 2 vols, 8vo, contemporary half calf, gilt ruled spines, with contrasting labels, gilt : a very good copy.One of the important 19C English travellers in Ethiopia, Parkyns spent three years (1843-46) in the north of the country and provides excellent descriptions of the country, people, manners, customs, etc. "Personally acquainted with Dajazmach Webe, the ruler of Tegre, and other prominent Tegrean nobles whom he portrays, he provides us with a history of Tegre seen from the inside" - Pankhurst.
