PAPERS RELATING TO CAPT. W. H. MICKLE'S CIVIL WAR APPOINTMENTS. William H. Mickle, 134th New York Infantry, Official Documents, 1863-1865. 13 items. Official documents, most with printed letterhead, detailing William H. Mickle, Lieutenant in the 134th New York, to duty. The collection includes two special field orders from the Dept. of the Cumberland (for leave of absence); a special order on printed stationery for the Army of Georgia ("Left Wing" stricken out); five special orders from XI Corps (four printed); one printed special order and one general order from XX Corps. The most interesting items in this small assemblage are an outstanding character reference for Mickle signed by Maj. Gen. O.O. Howard and a letter with U.S. Military Telegraph letterhead signed by Maj. Gen. J.J. Reynolds. A second character reference, signed by Frank Fletcher, Chaplain of the 134th New York, notes that Mickle's "daily walk, and conversation has been such as becometh a followed of the Lord Jesus. I have learned to prize him both as a Christian, and gentleman, his voice has often been heard in our camp prayer meetings, and all the temptations that surround a soldier's life, have in no manner tempted him away." A tempting lot in fine condition, with two outstanding autographs. PLEASE NOTE: THIS LOT WILL BE SOLD ON EBAY LIVE AUCTIONS BETWEEN 4:00-5:00pm EASTERN DAYLIGHT TIME ON MAY 10, 2002.
