All pages handwritten, most with instructions for making various kinds of papers, vat sizes, machine specifications, etc. However, on blank pages in between are small history lessons and Civil War facts. P. 60 has Longstreet's Field Division, listing companies in the corp. and battles participated in; another page has IOOF data, particularly for Greene Co., OH; Gettysburg data takes up 3 pages; another page has a recipe for relieving leg cramps; there are 6 pages of day-by-day events during the Civil War; 4 pp. of birth & death dates of Union and Confederate Officers; 4 pp. of other military men & statesmen (including sitting Bull & Daniel Boone); a page entitled Famous Duels; plus over a dozen pages of the Bailey family genealogy, back to late 18th century Ireland "Written by T.R. Bailey, Enon, Clarke Co., Ohio, Dec. 2, 1885," there are lists of residents and deaths in Greenville, SC, 1881, and National Cemeteries in the U.S. Quite an eclectic little book! Half-calf with marbled boards; extensive water staining and wrinkling, but most pages readable, cover coming loose.
