Pair of Italian Terracotta sculptures , signed by Tomaso and dated 1879 , measuring 25 inches H ! , in very good conditions, among the features revealed by the cleaning and conservation effort are the carefully rendered and lifelike facial details , terra cotta became the chosen modeling medium for neo-Classical artists devoted to visiting the Greek and Roman past and who worked close to the antiquities in Rome that served as their inspiration. They used it extensively for making bozzetti, or sculptors' rough drafts for larger works in stone or bronze, modeling in clay the way a painter might do a preliminary sketch on paper , they are 2 Nereids ,The Nereids were the 50 daughters of Nereus (the Sea) and Doris. They were the Nymphs of the Sea.
