Pair of antique ginger jars with handpainted and printed Oriental style decoration with birds and flowers. Made by Copeland Late Spode, 1906-1920.<BR>Each jar is 10 3/4" high. <BR>Baluster form, printed and painted with 4 shaped cartouches, outlined in iron red, enclosing a bird amongst peonies, carnations and wheat sheathes, clearly influenced by Chinese/Japanese art. Shades of pink, yellow, russet and green against a blue cracked-ice ground, scattered with stylised flowerheads. The shoulders and neck with a band of flowers & scrolling foliage, matching that on the lid. Gilt rims. Domed cover with bud shaped blue finial. <BR>Underglaze blue factory mark for Copeland Late Spode, used circa 1906 (see page 281 Spode Copeland Spode by Vega Wilkinson).<BR>Excellent condition.
