PAIR 18th C. SPANISH Candleholders ? GILT

Robust, Carved & polychrome Appliques

A pair of 18th C. Spanish candle arms discovered in Madrid, Spain. The sconces are carved in wood, with polychrome and gilt. Crenellated tin bobeche complete the decorative look. We commissioned the heavy, modern iron plates, skillfully hand-fashioned by a blacksmith. The pair now serves as striking candleholders for use on a table.

Expectedly on objects of this great age the polychrome & gilt has small areas of touch-up, yet the vast majority of the gilt and polychrome remains in original condition. The bobeche have obvious age but they are likely later replacements as these elements were often lost and replaced. Each sconce is adjustable in height so you may adjust them to suit your décor. Please not the pair is very heavy and substantial with their iron bases, each weight approximately 10 lbs.

DIMENSIONS:
The candlesticks stand approx: 14" to the top of the bobeche (the may be lowered if desired). The base is approx: 8.5" long x 10" tall and 5.5" wide.
