PAINTED GAME BOARD WITH HISTORY. Black and white painted checkerboard. Back side has pasted old paper saying “This checkerboard was once the property of the Club who occupied this room. In the years 1860-1862. Known as the Ellsworth Associates. 15 of its members out of 16 enlisted in the Union Army. Presented by Comrade J. E. Trask”. PROVENANCE: From a Salem, Massachusetts home. SOLDIER HISTORY: James E. Trask resided in Salem, Massachusetts. He enlisted on 8/15/62 as a private. He was in the MA 50th Infantry and was a member of the GAR Post #34 in Salem, MA and also Post #89 in Beverly, MA. He dies 5/12/04. The Ellsworth Association was a group formed after the death of Col. E. Elmer Ellsworth. Primarily a New York group, it had satellite groups throughout the north. SIZE: 15-1/2” x 15-1/2”.
