PACIFIC THEATER SHELL CASING "DRAGON" LAMP
A beautiful hand-worked 150mm shell casing depicting two entwined Chinese dragons on a stippled background, hand-hammered in high relief on a chromed brass casing standing 34 1/2" tall. The design has been executed by a very talented artist who was undoubtedly in-theater, probably in China. An (inert) replacement shell is loosely fitted to the top of the casing, and it bears three arms which accommodate screw-in light bulbs. Each fixture is fitted with a pull chain. The entire assemblage, with black wood base, stands 50 1/2" tall. The wiring, all ca. 1940s, appears intact but has not been tested - it could very easily be replaced by even a novice. A real conversation piece. Provenance: The War Museum, New York.
