1890-Gorgeous antique microscope and wooden storage case. Includes 7 Bausch & Lomb objective lenses in 5 brass screw-top cases: 8mm 0.50, 16mm 0.25, 2/8 0.24, 1 1/2in 0.14, 2in 0.10, 3in 0.08mm, and a beautiful prism objective. The base is screwed down to a wooden board, which slides into the wooden case for storage. The wooden case, 10” by 18” rectangle, is missing its clasp and key. The handle, however, is intact. The case itself is cracked on the door, and scratched and dinged all over its surface. This microscope, the Acme 3, debuted in 1890. An excerpt from the 1892 Pocket Catalogue of Microscopes, Magnifiers, Microscopical Accessories, Mounting Materials, etc., by James W. Queen & Company: “The entire microscope is of brass, highly finished, and of the most perfect workmanship, The body may be set at any angle of inclination most convenient. This is an instrument which we can recommend as being well adapted for work of even the very highest grade, as, for example, bacteriological investigations (which require the highs power lenses, with suitable illuminating apparatus, and a stand having accurate adjustments for both.)"
