ALS, one page, lightly-lined, 6 x 9.5, Murray Hill Hotel letterhead, April 25, 1870. Letter to journalist Frank G. Carpenter. In full: “Yours recd. I have more calls from Magazines & popular newspapers for what I can write–than I can supply. Every penny earned by my pen is given to worthy charitable objects & I don’t write anything without receiving liberal payment therefor.” In a postscript, Barnum adds “I nearly finished a fortnight ago an article on the subjects you name–for which either of 3 or 4 Magazines would gladly pay me liberally. PTB.” Letter is affixed to an identical size card. In good condition, with uneven toning, pencil notations along bottom edge, a few creases, and some scattered light soiling.
