P. Newhardt Kentucky Flintlock Rifle
Fixed sights on a rifled barrel lightly marked P. NEWHARDT" with the last half of this remaining. There is a Peter Newhardt (also seen as Neihardt) listed as having worked in Northampton County, Pennsylvania, from 1764 until his death in 1813. Also, there were some Newhardts that worked in the Allentown Pennsylvania area circa 1774-1800 (we are not sure which of the aforementioned individuals made this rifle). Brass trigger guard, engraved patch box, ramrod pipes, and buttplate. Full length tiger stripe stock with simple line carvings on the forearm and German silver inlays (single heart inlays on the sides of the wrist, thumb shield and crescent shaped escutcheons for two of the six barrel wedges). Very good. The rifle has a smooth dark patina with some minor flash pitting and some scattered light spotting. The brass has a mixed aged patina. The touch hole has been rebushed, side plate has been repaired and a wedge is absent. The stock is fine with some minor dings and scratches. Mechanically functions fine, but set trigger is a little sticky.
