Brigadier General of the Confederate Provisional Army (1818–1893) who commanded the forces at Charleston, where he ordered the bombardment of Fort Sumter. War-dated ANS signed “G.T.B.,” one page, 8 x 4.5. Note written at the bottom of a telegram written to Beauregard from Colonel W. S. Walker dated October 25,1862, from Pocataligo, SC. Walker asks Beauregard “General: Can you not spare me some Infantry. Is the long range guns to remain. Names of killed and wounded sent to Charleston.” At the bottom in pencil, Beauregard writes: “You can keep for the present 200 Infantry armed with long ranged rifles, take them from the Charleston troops, otherwise take them from units from the Ga. Troops.” In very good condition, with Beauregard’s writing fairly light, but legible, vertical folds, scattered toning and soiling, and a trimmed top edge. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
