Owens, Jesse
Owens, Jesse (1913-1980) African American track and field star who won four gold medals at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin and embarrassed Hitler by disproving his theory of Aryan superiority. Two items from the 1936 Olympics, both signed "Jesse Owens / 36 Olympics" in black marker. The first item is a 1936 German postal card showing the Berlin Stadium Olympics site; the second item is a souvenir sheet with a block of four stamps commemorating the 1936 games. Also included is a stamp featuring Owens and honoring his Olympic feats; it was issued by the U.S. in 1990. All very fine.
