Owenhouse moved from Cheyenne to Bozeman in 1889. He had worked with Frank Meanea, a saddlemaker in Cheyenne at E.L. Gallatin and Gallup Saddlery prior to moving to Montana. Gallatin was one of the most celebratedmakers in the west from 1860 when he opened in Denver until he sold out in Cheyenne to his nephew Frank Meanea, with Frank then becoming the most popular saddlemaker of the late 1800's. E.J. Owenhouse built a limitedamount of saddles and are a very rare find. He and other partners started Owenhouse Hardware store in Bozeman that is still in business, however, they no longer carry saddles. The saddle would date from 1889 to1895. The tree for this saddle was built by Frank Meanea's brother, Theodore in Pueblo, Colorado. This rare saddle is in good condition with a 16" seat (16.25" to the cantle stitching).This is from the Dale E. Moore Collection in Belgrade, Montana.
