American writer (1860–1938) best known for his Western novel The Virginian. Three items: a pair of TLSs, both one page, 8.25 x 11, 328 Chestnut Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania letterhead, addressed to editors of the Boston publication Youth’s Companion. The earlier letter, dated July 29, 1903, in part: "It has been asked of me that I pass on the enclosed to an editor…The author is a young man whose integrity can be answered for"; and the second, January 18, 1904, in part: "Excuse the brief answer compelled by many letters. I think I understand perfectly, and I think you will have my article within ten days." Also includes an ink signature, “Owen Wister, Oct. 8, 1902,” on an off-white slip, which has been matted with a small portrait of Wister to an overall size of 7 x 10. In overall fine to very good condition.
