Overton, Al. C. EARLY HALF DOLLAR DIE VARIETIES 1794-1836. Al. C. Overton, Colorado Springs. 1967. 8vo. xiv, 349 pages. Original maroon leatherette, gilt, jacket. b&w coin photos throughout. Jacket edges worn and chipped, serface soiled, Near Very Good. Book Fine. This book is an illustrated descriptive analysis of the United States lettered edge half dollars from 1794 thru the final year of this type in 1836. It covers hundreds of varieties illustrated in conjunction with their scientifically patterned descriptions. Many important but previously obscure varieties, such as the 1806 round top 6, without stem thru claw, 1814 and 1817 single leaf reverses, 1823 broken and patched 3 varieties, the 1828 with rare small letter reverse etc. all these and many others are now made crystal clear with photographs and a precise, consistent method of brief but accurate descriptions. In the compilation of this work it is estimated that over ten thousand lettered edge half dollars were closely examined checked and compared. With this book the collector as well as the professional dealer should be able to ascertain the die variety and rarity of most lettered edge half dollars quickly and positively. Lot weight: 1 lbs 15oz. Subject(s): United States Coinage.
