This partly-gilt Sino Tibetan bronze figure represents the Bodhisattva Mañjusri in padmâsana. The deity is seated on a pedestal with double lotus wreath and an upper pearl string. The precisely crafted soles of his feet are turned upwards. The bodhisattva is holding a long sword in his raised right hand. The sword represents transcendent wisdom, cutting down ignorance and duality. His left hand forms the shunya mudra and a lotus stalk is laid around his thumb. The lotus is raised up to his left shoulder and a book lies on top of the flower. The attributes sword and book are symbols of wisdom.

Mañjusri has a peaceful, serene expression with half closed eyes and a slight smile. He is wearing precious jewelry and a five-leaf crown adorns his head, which is a symbol of the reign over the five elements. The high topknot behind the crown is very precisely crafted, with strands of the hair falling over the shoulders of the bodhisattva. The ribbons of his garment swirl around his hips and the figure is sealed by a base plate. On the reverse of the pedestal four Chinese characters are visible.

The bronze figure is in good condition with natural patina and slight signs of age and wear. Little gold abrasion is visible and the tip of the topknot is bent. The figure measures 65 cm in height, 52 cm in width and 26 cm in depth.
