Outstanding custom engraved and 24 K gold inlaid Colt Storekeeper's Model SAA revolver, .45 Long Colt cal., 4" barrel, blue and case hardened custom finish, double raised carved ivory grips by Dennis Holland, #044SE4. This work of art was accomplished and signed by Master engraver Ken Hurst and is in like new condition showing extensive coverage of scroll engraving on all parts of the revolver including double gold banding of the barrel, gold borders on the frame with four fantastic panels including a raised gold portrait of legendary Western lawman Wyatt Earp on the left recoil shield, a Deputy Marshal's badge in silver on the loading gate, and inlaid gold "OK" on the right front side of the frame (for the OK Corral Gunfight) and an Ace and King playing cards in silver on the left side of the front frame. Inscribed on the top of the frame are the words "Tombstone" (Arizona Territory) and "Oriental" (popular saloon in Tombstone); on the sides of the trigger guard are the dates "1848" and "1929" (years of birth and death of Wyatt); on the back strap is the signature "Wyatt S. Earp"; on the butt strap is "Josie" (Wyatt's final companion, Josephine Marcus) and the date "1881" (OK Corral Gunfight). The gun also shows magnificently raised carved ivory grips with the portrait of Earp above a scene at the OK Corral on the left grip and a raised image of an alleged popular period photo of Josephine Earp in a night gown. Accompanying this lot is a letter dated August 9, 2000, from Jim Alaimo providing information on this highly stylized Colt. Est.: $7,500-$15,000.
