Manufactured in 1917, this is an excellent example of a WWI German Erfurt produced Luger pistol. The top front edge of the barrel extension has the small rear sight cut, typically intended for the rear portion of the artillery rear sight, and as seen on many 1917 produced Lugers. The chamber is dated 1917, with the standard "Crown/ERFURT" marking on top of the front toggle. The right barrel extension has the standard "Crown over script" proofs next to an "Imperial Eagle" proof. The right barrel extension and left side of the barrel have the "Crown over RC" and "Crown over X" Revisions Commission, indicating a serviceable Luger that had parts fail their initial inspection because of non-critical tolerance or external flaws. In addition, the right top rear section of the barrel has a small Army test Eagle proof. Many of the smaller parts having the Erfurt "Crown over a script letter" proof. The pistol has the standard fixed front and rear sights and the extractor and safety are properly marked with "GESICHERT" and "GELADEN". The pistol exhibits the typical Erfurt rough machining and rust blue finish with the straw colored small parts (trigger, safety, takedown lever, and ejector). Fitted with checkered walnut grips and a nickel plated magazine body with the wooden base numbered "8664" above "+". Included with the Luger is one spare nickel plated magazine with an unnumbered/unproofed wooden base, an unmarked takedown tool, and a WWI brown leather holster marked "HANS ROMER/1918/NEU-ULM/B.A.XI" on the inside of the flap.
