Outstanding Transition Colt Model 1911 semi-auto pistol, .45 cal., 5” barrel, blue finish, checkered wood grips, two-tone magazine, #701765. This gun is in overall excellent condition showing approx. 95%original finish with some high point wear and holster wear to the left side of the slide at the muzzle; crisp action, fine bore, excellent markings, relaced grips with an extra pair of checkered wooden grips andoriginal screws included; factory letter accompanies this lot indication that this Transition Model was furnished with a new style trigger, grip safety and mainspring housing, sold to the United States Government and shipped to the Springfield Armory in Springfield, Massachusetts on February 7, 1924 in a shipment of 1,000 guns. An important variation between the Model 1911 and Model 1911-A1 with additional remarks inthe Colt letter stating “Although these pistols are categorized in the Colt records as Model 1911 pistols, they are furnished with the Model 1911A1 improvements.
