This Winchester Model 1894 Fancy Sporting Rifle was manufactured in 1896. The rifle has a 26 inch octagon barrel with full length magazine. The barrel, magazine, forearm cap and receiver are blue. The hammer and loading lever are color casehardened. The special order features include fancy grain walnut forearm and pistol grip stock with hard rubber shotgun buttplate and "Style H" checkering, Lyman folding combination front sight, rear sight blank and folding combination tang sight. The hard rubber pistol grip cap is embossed "WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS" and the hard rubber buttplate is checkered and is embossed with the Winchester logo in a circle. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped with the two-line legend "-MANUFACTURED BY THE-/-WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN. CONN. U.S.A.-" ahead of the rear sight blank. The left side of the barrel is roll-stamped "NICKEL STEEL BARREL/ESPECIALLY FOR SMOKELESS POWDER" in two lines between the rear sight dove-tail and the receiver. The caliber designation "30 W.C.F." is roll-stamped on the top of the barrel ahead of the receiver. The serial number, "46520" is stamped across the bottom of the receiver.

Excellent. The rifle is completely original and retains 90% of the original blue and casehardened finish. The barrel and magazine have nearly all of the blue finish intact and show minimal handling wear. The barrel markings are crisp. The edges of the receiver have some very minor handling wear, the blue finish on the bottom of the receiver ahead of the lever is thin. The loading gate has about 80% of the niter blue finish. The hammer and sides of the lever have strong case colors The contact points on the bottom of the lever have faded to a silver-gary patina. The highly figured walnut stock and forearm are excellent and retain 95% or more of the high polish piano finish with a few minor scratches and handling marks. The checkering on the pistol grip and forearm is sharp. This is an excellent example of an early production special order Winchester Model 1894 Fancy Sporting Rifle.
