Outstanding Scarce Early WWII U.S. Contract Winchester Model 1897 Trench Shotgun with The Six Hole H
This is an excellent example of a very scarce early 1942 production Winchester Model 1897 take-down military trench shotgun equipped with the very desirable, unmarked, first pattern, six-hole heatshield/handguard. The shotgun is a standard WRA 1897 takedown model with 20-inch, cylinder bore, barrel. The left rear side of the barrel has the Winchester Model 1897 factory logo, chambering and choke markings, and the right rear side of the barrel has the Winchester patent dates and New Haven address. The underside of the barrel is correctly dated "42" and the top of the barrel and receiver both have the correct circled "WP" firing proof along with the small US Ordnance Flaming Bomb proof. The underside of the barrel extension and the receiver are marked with the matching serial number of 934097. The lower section of the stock is correctly fitted with a sling swivel and has the standard checkered, black, hard rubber, butt plate with the circular WRA logo with the corresponding wire bail sling swivel on the underside of the bayonet lug/heat shield. The left side of the receiver is factory marked "U.S.". The receiver, correctly, lacks the additional Ordnance 'Shell and Flame' insignia that was stamped on later production Model 1897 Trench guns. The shotgun barrel and receiver have the original Winchester high-polish commercial grade blue finish, along with the Winchester factory varnished finish on the pump handle and low comb stock. The stock is a correct low comb version but lacks any Ordnance final inspection marks, which may indicate it was a field replacement.

Excellent overall with 98% of the original blue finish showing only minor edge and high spot wear overall. The Winchester factory markings are clear and sharp. The stock and hand guard both show 98% of their Winchester factory varnished finish with only some minor handling marks or scratches. An excellent example of a scarce early WWII Winchester Trench shotgun with the Six-Hole heat shield.
