Outstanding Scarce DWM Model 1908 Imperial German Navy Semi-Automatic Luger

This is an outstanding example of an early DWM Model 1908 German Navy Luger. These were the standard pre-WWI Navy Lugers issued to the Imperial German Navy all the way through WWI and into the Weimar era. This series of Luger is easily identified in that it lacks the grip safety from the 1906 models and it has the second pattern (upper) marked safety area with no chamber date. It has the standard "DWM" marked front toggle with the left side of the barrel extension having the double "Crown/M" proofmarks with the smaller Imperial "Crown" firing proof. The latter proofs, being repeated on the left rear section of the barrel with the "Crown/M" proof also stamped on the underside of the barrel. It is numbered in the military manner with the full serial number stamped on the major parts and the last two digits (56) correctly stamped on the various small parts. It has the correct sliding Navy type rear sight that is graduated for 100 and 200 meters. The magazine that accompanies this pistol is an original pre-war Navy version that has the nickel plated body with the wooden base that has the concentric circles on the ends, marked with the serial number (5556) running lengthwise. This exceptional Luger comes with a spare unnumbered and unproofed Navy magazine with the nickel plated magazine body and wooden base, all housed in a current custom made walnut display case. The case has three compartments, one for the Luger, the spare magazine and a box of ammunition.

Very fine with 99% of the blued finish overall with 99% of the straw colors on the various small parts. The grips are excellent with nice distinct checkering on both sides. The case and spare magazine are also excellent. This rare Navy Luger has all matching numbers to include the one magazine as noted, except the grips and firing pin which are unnumbered.
