This extraordinary Remington Model 1875 Single Action revolver was manufactured circa 1875-1889. The revolver has a rare high polish blue finish on the barrel, cylinder and frame (most, if not nearly all are nickel plated). The hammer and loading gate have a color casehardened finish. The revolver has two-piece, oil-finished, walnut grips. The butt has a factory fitted lanyard loop. The top of the barrel and the right side of the frame are stamped with the initials: "C.F.P.A." (Capper's Farmers Protective Association, Topeka, Kansas, 1880-1893). The top of the barrel is roll-stamped with the legend: "E.REMINGTON & SONS. ILLION. N.Y. U.S.A." in one line. The caliber, "44W" (.44-40 WCF) is stamped on the lower edge of the left grip. The serial number or batch number is stamped on the lower left side of the frame beneath the grip. The serial number is penciled on the inside of both grips. The Model 1875 Single Action revolver was Remington's attempt to compete with the Colt Single Action Army. Although the revolver was well designed, lack of government contracts limited sales.
