This outstanding Martini Creedmoor Target Rifle was manufactured by the Providence Tool Company of Providence, Rhode Island, circa 1875 to 1880s. Several variations of this rifle were manufactured and it is estimated that less than a thousand of all types of sporting models were produced. This example of a Creedmoor rifle is equipped with dovetail mounted windage adjustable globe front sight and tang mounted long range rear sight. The one line Providence, Rhode Island, address is stamped on the top barrel flat with "44 CAL/100GRS" stamped toward the breech. The receiver is lightly engraved, with "Creedmoor" and "PEABODY & MARTINI PATENTS" on the sides in rolling print. The receiver has a checkered thumb panel on the upper right side and a checkered trigger with sliding safety lever. Mounted with a nicely figured checkered pistol grip stock and forearm, with a metal Schnabel forearm tip, a smooth shotgun style buttplate and a mounting base for a prone sight.

Condition: Extremely fine. The rifle retains 85% of the original blue finish, showing the start of a gray patina, scattered brown spotting, and minor handling marks. 60% of the original case colors are present on the frame, especially in the protected areas, with mild spotting. Stock is also very fine, with scratches and dents. Mechanically excellent.
