Outstanding Pre-World War II Colt Single Action Army Revolver Chambered in the Rare 44 Russian and S&W Special Caliber

This is a beautiful all original pre-war Colt Single Action Army revolver that was manufactured in late 1921 or early 1922 that is chambered in the desirable "44 Russian and S&W Special" caliber. This revolver is one of an estimated 506 Single Action revolvers chambered for the .44 S& W Special cartridge. This cartridge was originally developed by S&W in 1870 for their Russian contract revolvers that was later used by both Colt and S&W in their pistols. This caliber is recognized as one of the most accurate mid-range pistol target round ever developed in the early 1900s, and was a favorite of Buffalo-Bill as well as other well known trick shot showman and pistol officiados. The barrel roll-stamped with the one-line Colt legend "COLT'S PT. F.A. MFG. Co. HARTFORD CT. U.S.A.", with the left side roll stamped "RUSSIAN AND/S &W SPECIAL 44". The left side of the frame is roll-stamped with the Colt two line, three date patent markings followed by the uncircled Rampant Colt. The serial number "343871" is stamped on the underside of the frame and it has the third-stage serial number relocation, where the matching serial numbers (343871) are stamped on the right side of the right side of the trigger guard and back straps under the grip panel. The back side of both grips are correctly numbered (scratched) with the matching serial number "343871". The back of the cylinder is also correctly stamped with the partial matching serial number "71". The inside of the loading gate is stamped with the assembly number "584". The left front trigger guard bow is stamped with a "1" assembler's mark above the Colt "Triangle/VP" proofmark. This rare pistol has the beautiful Colt pre-war commercial blued finish on the various parts; barrel, ejector housing, cylinder, trigger guard and back strap with the casehardened frame, hammer and loading gate.
