Outstanding Pre-64 Winchester Model 70 Super Grade Bolt Action Rifle in Rare 250-3000 Savage

This deluxe version of the standard Model 70 rifle was manufactured in 1941 in the rare 250-3000 Savage caliber. Winchester introduced the 250-3000 Savage caliber in 1937 to its line of Model 70s before discontinuing the caliber in 1949. As Model 70 expert and author Dean Whitaker has noted, that of the approximately 135,000 units manufactured during the first thirteen years of Model 70 production, 250-3000 Savage chambered variations make up an "extremely small percentage." The barrel features a hooded ramp front sight and a filler block in the rear sight dovetail slot with the right side stamped with the two line address and the left side having standard Winchester markings followed by "250-3000 SAV." The Winchester factory proof is stamped on the left side of the barrel and receiver at the breech. The floor plate is stamped "-SUPER GRADE-." The receiver has a Lyman sight with the stock not inletted. Pre-war safety, polished bolt numbered to gun and cloverleaf receiver tang. The straight comb pistol grip stock features multi-point checkering, ebony forend tip, sling swivel studs, factory hard rubber grip cap, cheekpiece and checkered steel buttplate, all features of a Super Grade stock.

Excellent. The rifle retains 97% plus original blue finish showing slight loss at the muzzle and some minor high edge wear. A ding is present on the barrel near the breech. The stock is very fine with some very scattered minor handling marks and overall crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent.
