Manufactured in 1949 during the Transition period (late 1945-1951). The Transition period saw an increase in yearly production to satisfy the growing demand for the Model 70. This rifle is a deluxe version of the standard Model 70 rifle. The rifle has a hooded front sight, elevation adjustable rear sight and a receiver tapped for scope/sight mounting. Standard Winchester markings including the factory proof on the left side of the barrel and receiver at the breech and "-SUPER GRADE-" on the hinged floor plate. The rifle has a late safety which like the Transition safety was designed to accommodate the installation of telescopic sights without interference, but with an "L" shaped lever. The polished bolt is numbered to the gun. Mounted on a select walnut and checkered pistol grip stock featuring a straight comb, cheekpiece, forend cap, hard rubber Winchester grip cap, quick release sling swivels and checkered steel buttplate. Complete with Winchester box numbered to the gun, hanging tag and instructions.
