A) Engraved Gold Inlaid Ballard Rifle Company Model 1885 High Wall Single Shot Special Sporting Rifle with Letter of Authenticity. This beautiful, master engraved pair of Model 1885 rifles were manufactured by Ballard Rifle & Cartridge Company, assembled by noted custom single shot target rifle maker Ron Long, and engraved by Winchester Master Engraver "Joseph". Blue barrel and casehardened receiver, lever and buttplate. The rifle is beautifully engraved and features gold inlaid wire and vine patterns on the muzzle and breech ends of the barrel. The #4 WT. barrel is tapered and is equipped with a blade front and buckhorn rear sporting sights. The thick action is masterfully engraved with finely detailed floral designs with scalloped borders. The right side of the action features a finely detailed image of the front of the Buffalo Bill Historical Center with mountains in the background and a banner border. The left side features high relief engraving of Buffalo Bill sitting on the ground, holding a rifle with mountains in the background with a scalloped border. Each side of the top of the receiver behind the hammer has a relief bison in an oval panel and the lever is engraved with the seal of the McCracken Research Library. The upper tang is engraved "One of Two" flanked by outwardly pointing arrows and the serial number "W190" is engraved on the bottom of the action. The lower tang is engraved with the signature of the engraver "Joseph / Cody, Wy.". The rifle is equipped with a single set trigger and is mounted with extra fancy black walnut checkered forearm with an ebony forend insert and pistol grip stock with a cheekpiece and checkered buttplate. These rifles were completed on June 30, 2001 and were made to the original Winchester Model 1885 specifications with parts interchangeable with original Model 1885s. The rifle is complete with a letter of authenticity from the President of Ballard Rifle, LLC. Consignor states he bought these rifles from the "Best of the West" at the Cody Museum, WY.
