Outstanding Martial Civil War Remington New Model Army Percussion Revolver
Remington New Model Army Revolver manufactured in 1864. The revolver has a blue barrel frame, cylinder, loading lever and grip straps. The trigger guard is brass and the hammer and trigger have a casehardened finish. The two-piece walnut grips have an oil finish. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped: "PATENTED SEPT. 14.1858 / REMINGTON & SONS. ILION.NEWYORK. U.S.A. / NEW MODEL" in three lines. The serial number, "90421" is stamped on the underside of the barrel and on the left side of the grip strap. "90421" is written in pencil on the inside of both grips. The partial serial number "04/21" is stamped on the rear face of the cylinder. All of the serial numbers match. A two initial, script, Ordnance final inspection mark is stamped on the lower edge of the left grip. Single letter Ordnance sub-inspection marks are stamped on most components. The Remington New Model Army Revolver was the primary handgun issued to Federal cavalry regiments during the last two years of the Civil War and these rugged revolvers remained in service with the regular cavalry regiments on the frontier until they were replaced with the Model 1873 Colt Cavalry Revolvers in 1875.

Excellent. The revolver appears un-issued and retains approximately 90% plus of the original blue finish. The revolver shows only storage wear along with the finish flaking that is characteristic of Remington revolvers. The barrel has several patches of flaking along the top and sides with some light wear on the barrel edges. The exposed metal surfaces have a gray-brown patina. The cylinder has turn-lines and some minor scratches. The frame has most of the blue finish with some minor flaking on the backstrap. The brass trigger guard is bright. The hammer and trigger have 98% of the muted case colors. The grips are in excellent condition with several minor storage marks. The Ordnance final inspection stamp on the left grip is in perfect condition. The barrel markings, serial numbers and sub-inspection marks are crisp. The action is tight and functions perfectly. This is an excellent example of a Remington New Model Army Civil War percussion revolver.
