Outstanding G. S. Garcia Kissing Bird Bit. Maker-marked G.S. Garcia / Elko / Nev, along with a stamped letter "F" for Filo Gutrierrez, this superb silver overlaid half-breed kissing bird bit was listed in the Garcia catalog as pattern No. 250 and priced at a hefty $30 nearly 100 years ago. It has heavy gauge 2" silver conchos on the cheeks "riveted to a brass back plate which is connected to the mouthpiece so that the movement of the cricket makes more noise than any other bit" according to the catalog description. The kissing birds appear to have gold eyes creating a distinctive contrast with the silver mountings. Excellent condition, circa 1911-1915. PROVENANCE: Dick Powell Collection, Casa Grande, Arizona
