Outstanding Extremely Rare Factory Engraved Gold Inlaid Antique Colt Model 1892 New Army and Navy Do
Manufactured in 1897. The top of the barrel is marked with the two line address/ 1884, 1888 and 1895 patent dates, the left side is marked "COLT D.A. 38" and the Rampant Colt is marked on the left side rear of the frame. The matching assembly number "832" is marked on the frame, crane and cylinder release, the serial number appears on the butt. Blade front, frame notch rear sights, all blue finish with fire blue screws, trigger and hammer with polished sides and fitted with ivory grips. The right side plate is engraved with simple designs around a gold inlaid stylized "D" with a St. Thomas cross. By 1904, Colt had produced about 226,000 1892 revolvers and only 90 were factory engraved and only 10 with gold inlay. (see pages 339-341 of Sutherland's "The Book of Colt Firearms").

Condition: Excellent. The revolver retains 97% bright original high polish blue finish with some mild muzzle and high edge wear, some thinning and flaking on the backstrap and a faint drag line on the cylinder. Some barely noticeable, extremely minor pitting is present on the right interior side of the top strap. All of the original fire blue finish remains on the screws, 90% on the trigger and 99% on the hammer. All of the gold inlay remains. The grips are excellent with only a minor age crack on the bottom of the right panel and overall light handling marks. The markings are crisp and clear. Mechanically excellent.
