This is a beautiful example of a Denise Thirion engraved Single Action Army revolver featuring Class D Nimschke style engraving. The barrel has almost full coverage of floral scroll and punch dot engraving with checkerboard and floral panels on the rear sides. The ejector housing has the same floral scroll, punch dot and checkerboard design. The special order long flute cylinder flats are decorated with floral scroll designs with a scalloped and dot border around the rear. The sides of the frame have floral scroll and checkerboard designs with a Indian scouting buffalo in a plains scene on the lower left and a tepee scene on the right side. The top strap has a floral scroll and rope design and the back strap has the floral scroll and checkerboard design. The hammer sides are engraved with a hawks head and floral scroll and punch dot designs. The revolver, oddly enough, is absent of any markings except for "CAL. 45" on the bottom of the barrel ahead of the cylinder pin and the Colt triangle "VP" proofmark on the upper left side of the trigger guard. Black powder style frame, bulls-eye ejector rod head and fitted with a one piece smooth ivory grip. This revolver is pictured and briefly described on page 827 of the "Colt Engraving Book Volume Two" by R.L. Wilson. Complete with two piece blue Colt box with papers and cable lock.
BBL: 10 inch round
Stock:
Gauge: 45 Long Colt
Finish: nickel
Grips: ivory
Serial Number: SA73267
Condition: Near new in box. The revolver retains all of the original nickel finish with a few extremely minor handling/storage marks. The cylinder flutes show signs of some minor frosting. The grips are also excellent with an attractive grain. The engraving is sharp. The action is excellent. This revolver is of the quality of the Gustave Young engraved panel scene colt SAA's made over a century before.
