Outstanding Documented Colt Bisley Flattop Target Model Revolver in 38 W.C.F. Caliber with Factory Letter

This is an exceptional original example of a Colt Bisley Flattop Target Revolver that is chambered in the scarce .38 W.C.F. caliber. Colt manufactured a total of 976 Bisley Flattop Target Revolvers and only 98 were chambered for the .38 W.C.F. cartridge. The top of the barrel is marked "COLT'S PT. F.A. MFG. Co. HARTFORD CT. U.S.A.", the left side "(BISLEY MODEL) 38 W.C.F." and the left side of the frame is marked with the two line, three patent dates followed by the circled Rampant Colt. The Colt triangle "VP" proofmark is stamped on the left upper front of the trigger guard and a "W" assembler's mark is stamped on the left rear. The assembly number "12" is stamped on the inside of the loading gate. "41" is stamped on the underside of the barrel just ahead of the frame. The inspection number "3" is stamped in the hammer slot. The full serial number "313441" is stamped on the bottom of the frame, trigger guard and back strap. The revolver has the Colt high polish commercial blue finish with a color casehardened hammer and niter blue trigger, rear sight and screws. Flat frame with drift adjustable target rear sight and block mounted target front sight with removable brass blade, distinctive Bisley humpback grip and extended back strap, curved wide spur hammer and longer wider trigger. Fitted with black hard rubber checkered grips with the Rampant Colt in an oval at the top. The accompanying factory letter verifies the 38/40 caliber, barrel length, blue finish with grips as "Not Listed" and that it was shipped as 1 to Schwabacher Hardware Company in Seattle, Washington on December 22, 1910.

Excellent. The revolver is original and retains 95% plus of the original high polish blue, showing some very minor muzzle and front ejector housing wear, and thinning on the grip straps. The cylinder shows some light turn lines between the stops. Nearly all of the fiery niter blue finish remains on the rear sight, trigger and screw heads. The hammer has vivid case colors. The screws are all excellent. All of the markings are extremely sharp. The finely tuned action functions perfectly. The grips are excellent and show minimal handling marks on butt. This is an outstanding example of a Colt Bisley Flattop Target Revolver in the scarce and desirable 38/40 caliber.
