This 1879 mourning cover as well as three mourning letters are sent from Ambrose Burnside, famed Union Civil War General and U.S. Senator from Rhode Island. This mourning cover was sent during his tenure as a Senator and features the United States Senate postal cancel and Washington D.C. Congressional cancel as well. The letter was written to General John C. Robinson - another famed Union general. It appears that all of these items were written by Burnside and are appropriately signed by him on separate occassions. This is a magnificent collection of personal correspondence that are seldom seen from such a notable figure of the Civil War and Reconstruction Era. These items have not been authenticated by a third party. They are being sold as-is as a group and are not subject to return. We make every attempt to offer original signatures but in group lots we encourage the buyer to use their judgment.
