Outstanding Cased Webley & Scott Ltd. Model WG Target Revolver with Case Accessories

This is a fantastic example of a beautiful Model 1889 Webley, WG (Webley & Green) Army revolver complete with English retailer oak case. The right side of the frame is stamped with serial number, "7492" with the lower left side marked "WEBLEY/PATENTS" followed by the "Winged Bullet/W&S" trademark. The barrel rib is marked, "ARMY & NAVY C.S.L" with the left side of the barrel lug, roll-marked "455/476". The rear of the cylinder stamped "492" and "2" between the chambers. It has the standard fixed nickel-silver blade, front sight with the fixed rear sight. The frame is fitted with checkered walnut grips and a casehardened lanyard loop on the butt. It comes with an original retailers oak storage/display case with poplar wood bottom on the case with brass reinforcing screws on the lid and base. The top of the lid has a 2 1/2 inch square, unmarked, silver inscription or presentation plate inlaid in the center and on the inside of the lid there is a 3 1/2 X 5 1/2 inch retailers label. The label reads, "ARMY AND NAVY CO-OPERATIVE SOCIETY LIMITED/No.8/GUN DEPARTMENT VICTORIA ST. WESTMINSTER/LONDON, S.W.". The case is lined with Navy blue felt with six compartments including a twenty-four round cartridge block, a brass cleaning rod, small square glass oil container with a silver lid, a horse-hair brush and a silver blade screw driver with a dark rose or mahogany wood handle.

Excellent with 97% plus of the original early high polish finish overall with some minor flaking of the blue finish on the side of the cylinder (probably from sitting in the case) and one very small spot on the left underside of the barrel. The walnut grips are in excellent condition with nice distinct, sharp checkering on both sides with light wear across the tops of the checkering. The oak display case is in very fine condition with all the hinges, lock and front straps intact. The case overall shows some minor wear and scratches mostly on the top with some old varnish added to the lid which has aged and blended in very nicely. The corners are tight and intact and the popular wood bottom has a couple old age cracks that could easily be repaired by a conservator. A really super nice, high condition Webley WG Army revolver.
