This is an excellent example of a early DWM Model 1908 Military contract Luger pistol manufactured by the Erfurt factory in 1911. These 1908 Model Lugers were manufactured from 1911 to 1913. The top of the chamber area is stamped 1911, for the year of manufacture with the standard DWM marking on the front toggle. The right side of the barrel extension has the three standard Crown/Script letter proofs next to the Imperial Eagle proof. The underside of the barrel is correctly marked with the full serial number and the bore diameter. The front of the frame, left side of the barrel extension and underside of the barrel are correctly stamped with the full serial number and the remaining small parts are stamped with only the last two digits (40) of the serial number. This example has been later modified by the addition of the hold-open device. These Erfurt manufactured Lugers, typically were stamped with either a Crown over a script letter or "RC" Erfurt inspector proofs on the various small parts and this example follows that pattern. It has a rust blue finish with the straw colored small parts. Currently it is complete with one original matching nickel-plated magazine with the original wooden base that is marked "Crown/Script Letter Proof/8040/+ over a Crown/Script D" proof.
