Outline of the Revolution in Spanish America
Manuel Palacio Fajardo : Outline of the Revolution in Spanish America; or An Account of the Origin, Progress, and Actual State of the War Carried on Between Spain and Spanish America; Containing the Principal Facts Which Have Marked the Struggle. (New York: James Eastburn and Co, 1817), first U.S. edition, vii, 219 pages, plain boards, 12mo (4.5" x 7.75"). From the preface: "…The author has confined himself, as much as possible, to the simple relation of facts, leaving it to his readers to draw their conclusions from them. All that is contained in the book is to be found in official and other authentic documents. Of many of the facts related, the author himself has been witness, and of many others he possesses detailed accounts from men of credit and information…" This author, as listed on the title page is "A South-American." It is known, however, that Palacio Fajardo, a Venezuelan patriot and congress member and an ardent spokesman for their complete independence, wrote this book. It is also thought that writer and diplomat Andres Bello was co-author. Fair condition, taped spine, previous owner's name (Rh: M: Johnson) written on half-title page, extensive internal foxing. An important work outlining firsthand this explosive time in South America.

Shipping: Books & Catalogs (view shipping information)
