<B>Al Jennings Signature</B></I> on a blue 5.5" x 2" card. It's a bit hard to separate fact from fiction when dealing with the life of this interesting character. Born in Virginia, Jennings (1863-1961) ran away from home at the age of 11 and became a cowboy. He then attended law school at the University of West Virginia and earned his degree. He and his brothers (also lawyers) sought their fortune in the newly opened Territory of Oklahoma where the six-shooter was nine-tenths of the law. In a shootout with some opposing attorneys, his brother Ed was killed and John Jennings was wounded. Al and his other brother Frank went out for revenge and eventually ended up forming the Jennings Gang who, in the late 1890s, was responsible for several train and store robberies. Al was captured late in 1897 and received a life sentence for his crimes. Through the efforts of his attorney (brother John), he got out in 1902 and would go straight for the rest of his long and interesting life. He very nearly became the governor of Oklahoma in 1914, traveled for a while as an evangelist, dealt in real estate, and eventually got into the movie business in Hollywood. His life story was made into a movie in 1951, <I>Al Jennings of Oklahoma,</B></I> with Dan Duryea in the title role. This signature is from 1946 and is in fine condition; it is mounted to a large card with a typewritten biography.
