Marbleized hardcover book, 9 x 12, well written entries from June 28, 1863 to Dec. 25, 1865. Entries signed by Everett, together with his signature on front cover. Accounts include Battle of Gettysburg (several pages), capitulation of Vicksburg, Port Hudson, Sherman's army and 2,000 prisoners, New York City Draft Riots, hunt and capture of John Morgan, election of Lincoln, son Charles Everett enlists, Grant takes Petersburg, reelection of Lincoln, slavery as cause of rebellion, Sherman's march of 60,000 men, Gen. Thomas defeats Rebel army in Nashville. Some entries by Everitt's daughter and son, who has written on Apr. 19, 1865, "This day (I) was a sad man on behalf of our deceased President." This personal journal, a written recitation of these three momentous years in America's history by one of Ohio's political leaders. A few pages light, else most of the 36 pages in large, clear script, darkly penned. At back, several additional pages of mounted newspaper articles of 1867. Unique.
