Our Gang Rare 1930'S Signed Photo By Stax
A true treasure from one of the all time classic comedies of the Silver Screen. An extremely rare signed original cast production studio photograph from the 1930's "Our Gang" series. It was shot by the legendary Hollywood photographer Bud "Stax" Graves. Throughout the industry Stax was very famous and beloved, and was best known as Hal Roach's right hand man and his main photographer, starting with the orignal silent "Our Gang" comedies in the 1920's, and continuing through the talkies. He also was the official Hal Roach studio photographer for many of Roach's other great teams, especially for all the classic Laurel & Hardy features. Many of his classic images of these comic giants have become as legendary as the actors themselves. This photo from the 1930's "Our Gang" was originally made for the senior director of the series, award-winning Gordon Douglas, who actually started as a child actor himself at the Hal Roach Studios and then worked with Laurel & Hardy behind the camera before taking over the reins of what most believe to be the best and most popular in the "Our Gang" series . This extremely rare all-cast photo shows the best of the "Our Gang" cast, including Spanky, Alfalfa, Darla, Porky, Buckwheat, Waldo, Butch and Woim, plus Pete the Dog. What makes this photo extra special is that it's literally one of the only photos in existence that is actually signed by Stax himself, with his own personal inscription: "To our Pal - Director Gordon Douglas from The Gang and Pete". The orignal matte backing shows water damage on the lower border, and has a missing piece in the upper right hand corner, but the large photo itself is in good condition, considering its age, with some slight water damage on the lower left hand corner. This highly collectable signed photo comes from the personal collection of the grandchildren of Gordon Douglas. Comes with a Letter of Provenience and is housed in the original hard-cover display case. Photo is approx 13.5"x10".
