While the Helbing firm traces its roots to 1878, most of the auction catalogues issued under the name of Otto Helbing post-date his retirement in 1912; the firm was run in later years by Heinrich Hirsch, Willy Schwabacher and Gerhard Hirsch until the Nazi era, during which management was assumed by Karl Kreß.
