German chemist (1879–1968) who won the 1944 Nobel Prize for the discovery of nuclear fission. ALS, in pencil, in German, signed “Dein Otto,” one page, 3.5 x 5.5, January 6, 1915. Letter to his wife Edith whom he wants to send a skirt to. In part (translated): “ I do not think that you can now send off packages. My friend helped to hate this: he made a package with his address, but why he wrapped another envelope with the address…He sent a so-called 'service package' to a company. This is only if you have a major or other off [Izier]. a Reg [iment]. knows he'll get the stamp and Reg is a service package …” In fine condition, with a bit of scattered light soiling.
