Otto Ernst was born in Louisville, Kansas in 1872 as one of five children. Otto grew up in Wamengo where he learned to build saddles while working for a leather craftsman named Dodgion. He moved to Sheridan, Wyoming in1900 and opened up his saddlery with John Buckley (Ernst-Buckley) in 1902. Ernst became the sole owner in 1907. Working with his brother, John, he improved his leather designs and carving techniques until hisstyle was refined to the beautiful carving of that period. No trip to Sheridan, Wyoming was complete without a visit to the Ernst Saddlery where a vast array of Rodeo stars, dude ranch guests and working cowboysfrequented the premises. John became a master saddle builder under Otto Ernst Saddlery. Otto Died in 1938. The doors of the famous saddlery closed in 1975. At one time Don King of the King Saddlery in Sheridan, Wyomingworked for Ernst Saddlery This Saddle would date to 1950. The saddle has deep carved tooling and was used well by a rancher who shaped the West. The saddle's
