Orson Welles Signed Letter. The most well-known f
Orson Welles Signed Letter. The most well-known filmmaker to the American public this side of Alfred Hitchcock, Orson Welles was the classic example of the genius that burns bright early in life only to fade later, a situation exacerbated by the fact that in his heyday his movies were of misunderstood, unappreciated, and often chopped to shreds by the studios. Here is a typed letter, undated, on Mercury Theatre letterhead and signed by Welles. It reads in full: "Dear Mrs. Rolls: Thanks so much for a really grand letter. I'm so glad that you liked our choice in Mr. Benny for one of our shows and I hope you enjoyed the program as much as you expected to." The letter is in very good condition, marred only by a 1" tear on the upper left edge along one of two horizontal fold creases. Also included is the original mailing envelope, postmarked April 18, 1940, and displaying extensive tanning. With COA from PSA/DNA.
