Ornate brass embellished Austrian military flintlock rifle, circa 1790-1800, customized at the time for an officer or as a consequence of capture, .65 cal., 26” unmarked octagon barrel with unusual last 4”at the muzzle which appears to be period added to the rest of the barrel as the original stock shows no damage or repair and extends the entire length of the barrel; copper front sight with some old knackeringto dovetail; receiver and lock plate unmarked; flared steel ramrod; action is good, bore is very good, two sling swivels on the left side of the gun at the wrist and mid-barrel; ornate pierced brass decorationextensively on the stock with hammered engraving on a large brass overlay that is on the underside of the stock from the last ramrod ferrule to the back of the trigger guard; pierced brass overlay on the woodpatchbox cover; one old repair on the right side of the butt stock under the patchbox. Research on Austrian riflemen/jeagers in the Napoleonic Wars revealed they fought on both sides and Napoleon thought they were fine
