Most likely this pistol was made for the Eastern Trade, to appeal to a chieftain or other high ranking individual. The barrel is decorated with gold, showing a golden border and scroll design at the muzzle, a 1/2 inch wide starburst a few inches back, and a leafy scroll pattern at the transition point to the round front to the 12-sided rear, which has gold washed engraved streaks in a series of flutes on top and a gold accented tang. Raised golden scrollwork is present on the lock, hammer, flash pan and frizzen, with the body of the hammer cut-through, engraved, and gold washed in the form of a winged serpent, with the body wrapped around the screw and the tail reaching up to the jaws. Smooth one piece stock, showing a combination of silver and German silver furniture, all engraved, including a silver array of arms ahead of the trigger guard and drums and flags on the wrist, a very large amount of silver wire and dot inlay, and a deeply chiseled trigger guard, reverse plate and buttcap, which show martial designs and arrays of arms. Provenance: The William Ashby Collection
BBL: 10 inch part twelve-sided

Gauge: 50
Finish: brown

Condition:
Fine, showing a brown patina on the steel, with over 95% of the original gold. Mild handling marks and spotting are visible overall, with darkening around the flash pan and a few rough spots on the barrel. Stock is good, with a few absent and loose sections of wire, some loss of the silver from the panel ahead of the trigger guard, and some chipping and dents. Mechanically very good.
