Ornate Door & Window Surrounds PLUS Baseboard
This house has some of the most unusual door and window trim we have seen. The molding is sawn from both cherry, mahogany, and is specially decorated with reeding, dental mold, press-carved decoration and applied embellishments. All the door and window trim is finished off with a variety of best quality and very unusual corner or capping blocks.
NOTE This house has a total of 9 interior doorways with fancy trim. Three of these retain the original pocket doors and will be sold separately in lots 047, 048 and 049.
This leave 6 interior doorways on the first floor that are being offered for their trim and because five of these doorways have fancy trim on both sides, it equates to 11 exotic door surrounds. Four of these doorways are about 9' high and 30" wide. One doorway is about 9'high and 6' wide, and the sixth doorway is about 9'high and 44" wide. These wider doorways held pocket doors at one time.
These 11 sets of door trim are found in a three similar but different styles, each of which is most unusual and very decorative. Some of the wood is mahogany and some is cherry. Each side of each doorway is capped with a large and unusual corner blocks.
This door trim is butted together, so it would be very easy to widen the doors by inserting a longer transom member. It would also be practical to remove these doorways in one piece by simply cutting them out of the walls. All the wood has the original finish and is in near mint condition.
Also included in this lot is all the trim around the 4 windows on the first floor. These windows are about 9.5' high and 50" wide and the trim varies but matches that of the doorways. The buyer may take the window sash, but may not take the window framing due to structural concerns.
In addition there is a massive bay window that is 10' high and 9.5' wide and includes built-in 12" shutters and raised paneling from the floor to the half round seat below the lower sash. The trim on this bay window is cherry and everything is in original finish. The buyer may take all the trim and the window sash, but may not remove the window framing due to structural concerns. The sash and the glass are curved, so it may not be practical to think about reinstalling the window as a single unit. This window could be reconstructed with a curved interior and flat sash if desired.
Altogether there is around 200 running feet of door trim, more than 100' of window trim, plus a huge multipart bay window complete a paneled baseboard and built in shutters. New molding of this quality, if it could be found, would cost a small fortune. IN ADDITION, the winning bidder on this lot will also be buying all the hardwood baseboard on the first floor. The matches the door and window trim except that which goes with the entrance door, the entry hall, and the raised paneling in the dining room.
